Our Official Heart Internet Hosting Review

Heart Internet Hosting is a UK based hosting company with very competitive prices. They include a generous share of hosting plans with just about every customizable option under the sun.

Best Features of Heart Internet Hosting

If I could name one feature of Heart Internet hosting as its best feature, I would say that they’re very well organized for all the features that they offer. They make it easy to choose your options without inundating you with technical jargon.

Unlimited Bandwidth and Disk Space

In a day and age when providers are cracking down on how much bandwidth or disk space you might be using, it’s always a breath of fresh air to discover that you can host your websites and information without worrying about how much you’re using. At the same time, you’ll never have to worry about your users receiving the dreaded error that says that you have exceeded your bandwidth for the month.

Support for Multiple Web Platforms

With the majority of the Internet taking full advantage of the wonders of WordPress, it is becoming increasingly common to find Web hosting providers providing support for nothing but WordPress. Heart Internet goes a step further and supports Drupal and Joomla!, along with WordPress.

Choose Your Own Operating System

Honestly, this is a feature that every Web hosting provider should offer. People do not like being forced to go one way or the other unless that is their operating system of choice. Heart Internet will give you the option of using either a Linux-based system or a Windows-based system with which to manage your hosted websites from.

A Well-Rounded Support System

They don’t have the best support (see below), but they do have an extremely well-rounded support system. If there’s a way for Heart Internet to reach their customers, they’re probably utilizing it. They offer email, live chat, phone support, social media, a knowledge base and video tutorials. If there is something you needed to know, they can probably point you in the right direction.

Your Choice of Control Panel

Although most people are used to cPanel, Heart Internet also gives you a complete choice of your control panel. Their own, in-house control panel is called eXtend and is sort of like a traditional cPanel. In addition to eXtend and cPanel, they also have Plesk for VPS users and WebMin options for dedicated users. These are all options – you don’t have to use Plesk or WebMin.

They Host Almost Everything

Heart Internet hosts just about everything under the sun. You can use Heart Internet to register your domain name. In addition to shared hosting, they also have premium hosting, reseller hosting, virtual private servers, hybrid servers, dedicated servers and email hosting.

They have their own website creation software and will help you with your email marketing efforts. If that weren’t enough, they will also submit your website to online search engine directories.

Downsides of Heart Internet Hosting

It appears that there might be a disconnect between the seemingly reliable hardware that Heart Internet uses and the people that run the company. Although they’re seen as a reliable player in the field, it appears that they might be lacking in other areas.

Poor, Awful Customer Support

Despite the number of ways that Heart Internet uses to connect with their customers, it seems that they’re not very knowledgeable. Some people complain that their representatives will quote from the terms of service and use it as an excuse not to provide a level of service that they should be. Other people complain about how they often get canned service responses such as, “We’re looking into it.” They may have every way under the sun to connect with their customers, but it doesn’t appear that they provide a level of service to match.

In fact, the chief complaint that people have with Heart Internet is a reduced level of impersonalized and unknowledgeable service.

Unreliable Connections

Another common complaint that you may find online as you do your research is that when someone’s virtual private server goes down, it becomes a struggle to get it back up. Some people have waited over 24 hours for a response from customer service while others are given canned responses such as a server reboot that takes 18 to 24 hours. In reality, a server reboot shouldn’t take any longer than a computer reboot – something that can be done in 10 minutes or less.

No Migration Service

You would think that hosting providers would be happy for you to abandon your current hosting provider to switch over to their hosting. Many hosting providers offer a free migration service for new customers migrating to their company. Unfortunately, Heart Internet is not one of them. If you have websites that you need to migrate over as a new customer, you either need to hire a third party or you’re on your own.

Bottom Line

Heart Internet has some impressive hardware abilities. For the most part, they have some of the most reliable uptime stats of any hosting provider. As long as you don’t need to reach out to customer service, you should be OK. Trouble begins as soon as you encounter an issue that requires you to reach out. You may be hard-pressed to get your issue resolved in a reasonable timeframe.
